BASE64 TEXT, LOCALLY
Convert UTF-8 text and Base64 locally.
Encode UTF-8 text as standard Base64 or decode Base64 back to text in your browser. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption.
Choose an operation and convert locally. Base64 is not encryption.
UTF-8 text, standard Base64
Encode mode turns the input into UTF-8 bytes before applying the standard Base64 alphabet. For example, café becomes Y2Fmw6k=. Decode mode reverses that process and reports an error if the decoded bytes are not valid UTF-8. The browser's btoa() and atob() functions work with byte strings, so the UTF-8 conversion matters for characters outside basic ASCII.
Base64 changes representation; it does not encrypt, authenticate, or hide data. This tool accepts the standard alphabet, valid optional padding, and ASCII whitespace. It does not accept URL-safe Base64 characters - and _. Page content updated November 3, 2026.
Runs in your browser. No uploads. No account.
Good to know
Is Base64 encryption?
No. It is reversible encoding, not encryption. Do not use it to protect passwords, tokens, or other secrets.
Can I encode accented text and emoji?
Yes. Encode mode converts JavaScript text to UTF-8 bytes first. Decode mode requires the recovered bytes to form valid UTF-8 text.
Can it decode URL-safe Base64?
No. This tool accepts the standard Base64 alphabet with plus and slash. URL-safe Base64 uses hyphen and underscore and is a separate variant.
Does my input leave the browser?
No. The conversion runs locally in this browser tab; the tool does not upload or save the input.
Is it free?
Yes, during beta. Optional usage-credit plans are coming soon. Payments are not available and no credits are required.

Method checked November 3, 2026. MDN explains the standard Base64 alphabet, its URL-safe variant, and the byte-string behavior of browser btoa()/atob(). RFC 4648 specifies the Base64 alphabets and padding.
How it works
1. Choose encode or decode. 2. Paste text or standard Base64. 3. Convert and copy the local result.
Good to know
Does Base64 encrypt or protect my text?
No. Base64 is a reversible representation for data, not encryption. Anyone with the encoded value can decode it; do not use it to protect secrets.
Does this support Unicode text?
Yes. Encoding first converts text to UTF-8 bytes, then Base64. Decoding interprets the recovered bytes as UTF-8 and reports an error if they are not valid UTF-8.
Which Base64 format is accepted?
The tool accepts the standard Base64 alphabet, optional valid padding, and ASCII whitespace. It does not accept the URL-safe alphabet that uses hyphen and underscore.
Does my input leave the browser?
No. Conversion runs locally in this browser tab; input is not uploaded or saved by the tool.
