FIND TEXT CHANGES LOCALLY
Compare two text versions line by line.
Compare two text versions in your browser. Review added and removed lines with options for exact or whitespace-insensitive matching.
Paste text into both fields and compare.
Added and removed lines will appear here.
How to read the result
Lines marked with a minus sign appear only in Before; lines marked with a plus sign appear only in After. Unchanged lines provide context. The comparison uses a longest common subsequence of lines, so repeated lines can affect which matching occurrence is shown. It reports line-level changes and does not identify word-level edits or produce a patch file.
Choose exact matching, ignore leading and trailing whitespace, or ignore all whitespace characters within each line. Line breaks still separate lines in every mode. Windows and old Mac line endings are normalized to line feeds. The comparison runs locally and accepts at most 1,200 lines and 100,000 characters per side. Page content updated November 3, 2026.
Good to know
Does it compare words or lines?
It compares whole lines. A line with any non-ignored change is shown as a removed line and an added line; it does not mark changed words within the line.
What do the whitespace options do?
Exact mode compares every character on a line. Trim mode ignores whitespace at the beginning and end. Ignore all whitespace mode ignores whitespace characters within lines, including spaces and tabs.
Are the results a patch file?
No. The output is a simple line-by-line view for inspection and copying. It is not formatted as a GNU unified patch and should not be passed to patch.
Does my text leave the browser?
No. Comparison runs in this browser tab. The tool does not upload or save the text.
Is it free?
Yes, during beta. Optional usage-credit plans are coming soon. Payments are not available and no credits are required.
Source
The comparison is a local line-based implementation. GNU Diffutils documents line comparison, whitespace handling, and diff output conventions that inform the options here. Source checked November 3, 2026.
How it works
1. Paste the earlier text and revised text. 2. Choose exact or whitespace-insensitive line matching. 3. Compare and copy the added and removed lines; text stays in your browser.
Good to know
How are changes matched?
The tool compares lines using a longest common subsequence. A changed line appears as a removal and an addition; it does not mark word-level changes.
Which whitespace options are available?
Compare lines exactly, ignore whitespace at each line edge, or ignore all whitespace within lines. Line breaks still separate lines.
Is this a patch file?
No. It is a simple view for inspecting and copying line changes, not a GNU unified patch.
Does my text leave this browser?
No. Comparison runs locally in this browser tab; input is not uploaded or saved.
